Fleet Maintenance
Turn Services provides barge cleaning, topside barge repair and inspection services at our Company’s fleets and at third-party locations. Our fleet personnel includes barge washers, fiberglass technicians, fitter, welders and crane operators.
Our barge washing teams consist of a hose operator and two helpers. This job entails washing excess cargo out of the hopper utilizing high-pressure hoses and siphons. The best barge washers understand the principles of hydrology and water flow at a very high level. Fiberglass technicians provide fiberglass grinding and repair services to customers’ barges that are in the fleet. Our welders and fitters provide welding processes to repair parts of metal on our customer’s barges. The crane operator is responsible for stacking and spreading barge covers and the operation of bobcats to assist in barge cleaning.
Engineering Maintenance Positions
The Engineering Maintenance Department is primarily responsible for coordinating and overseeing the maintenance, repair, and safe operations of all the assigned vessels and equipment. Our mechanics are responsible for carrying out daily duties such as repairing, maintaining, and troubleshooting the following equipment: marine diesel engines, outboard engines, transmissions, drive train, HVAC, plumbing, pumps holding tanks, and other related electrical equipment.
The team conducts service calls to various harbor locations and/or underway vessels and are on-call for emergencies as needed. The ideal candidate must be able to maintain accurate records, both paper and electronic, for purchasing, work orders, engine hours, and fluid levels and have the capacity to read and decipher blueprints and sketches.

The Vessel Department is responsible for operating the company’s vessels in the transportation of commodities on the inland river system, including supervision of the crew, maintaining the boat in a safe and seaworthy condition, navigation of the boat on the forward watch, administration of company policy, and adherence to all applicable laws and regulations.
Our deckhands perform physical labor aboard vessels and barges. Their daily tasks include making and breaking tow, standing watch, and cleaning the interior and exterior of vessels. Deckhands generally perform these tasks outdoors in all types of weather conditions.
Motivated Deckhands can also earn a spot in the Turn Services Steersman Program after satisfying Sea Time and Coast Guard Examination requirements, giving them an opportunity to become the next generation of Licensed Masters on our Inland Waterways and Western Rivers systems.
