Turn Services, one of the largest independent fleeting and shifting companies along the Mississippi River, holds corporate citizenship as one of its core values. Turn Services maintains an active interest in the well-being of the community in which it operates. Our concept of improving the area includes community outreach, philanthropy, and volunteerism.

One organization Turn Services is passionate about is the Children’s Hospital of New Orleans. On September 28th, 2023, Turn Services hosted their 13th Annual Golf Tournament with proceeds donated to the Children’s Hospital.

The tournament is held in memory of Glen Otero, a Port Captain and magnificent member of the Turn Services team. The first golf tournament was held to benefit Glen in his fight against cancer. Unfortunately, Glen had lost a long-fought battle with cancer in 2011. Glen was an inspiration to everyone who knew him, especially his sons, Dusty and Rusty, who are both Captains at Turn Services today. Turn Services could not think of a better way to honor his memory than by continuing the fundraiser named in his honor.

This year, the tournament was held at the Bayou Oaks at City Park and lasted from 7 am into the afternoon on Thursday, September 28th. The tournament proceeds are all contributed to helping advance and expand the monumental work being done at the Behavioral Health Center at Children’s Hospital New Orleans.

As one of the nation’s largest and most comprehensive Behavioral and Mental Health programs dedicated to children, Children’s Hospital New Orleans is proud to care for both kids and teens in crisis, and those struggling with everyday mental health challenges. While mental health services often go overlooked, the Children’s Hospital is making strides in bringing the staggering prevalence of mental health struggles in children to the forefront of pediatric healthcare.

The golf tournament featured breakfast and lunch, raffles, a tournament store, and sponsorships from various companies, including many maritime businesses. All silver, gold, and individual hole sponsors were recognized in the tournament opening speech given by the President of Turn Services, Mario Muñoz.

We would like to recognize the generosity of our Gold Sponsors; Associated Terminals, Ingram Barge Company, and the Meraux Foundation, as well as our Silver Sponsors- Kean Miller, SCF & Arcosa/Nabrico/Wintech. Further we would like to thank Hydra Force for sponsoring our lunch provided by Today’s Ketch, our breakfast sponsors Chevron – Global Lubricants North America and Performance Personnel Services and to our generous food sponsors: St. John’s Fleeting, Harbor Towing/Star Fleeting, Bluewater Gasket, Colby Services, Sewart Supply, Reliant Recycling, JMI and DiSalvo Marine /Thordon Bearings.

Due to everyone’s generous donations, we were able to present Children’s Hospital with a check for $135,000. Through the event alone, we have raised over $650,000 for this hospital—and that number is only growing. Turn Services appreciates all the gathered support from each individual sponsor as they help build a healthier and happier future for the children of Louisiana.
