 Women in Maritime Operations (WIMOs), a women-only organization focused on connecting women working in the maritime industry, fostering community and offering networking and professional development opportunities, held a social lunch-and-learn event November 8 at Associated Terminals’ Convent, La., office, along with a tour of ACBL’s fleet at Mile 158 on the Lower Mississippi River.

4/22/2019 Waterways Journal - Eymard Has Four Boats Under Construction
 A beehive of activity, the build-out area of Eymard Marine Construction & Repair at Harvey, La., currently has four towboats in the works, in various stages of completion. Two others are about to be started. Of the four being worked on, one is finished and is awaiting documentation, one is in the water being outfitted, the next one is on land, soon to be launched, and the fourth is an upside-down hull ready to be flipped. All are to be delivered before the end of the year to the New Orleans-based fleeting and shifting company, Turn Services.

For the second year, 40 of the industry’s future leaders were honored at the Inland Marine Expo with the "40 Under 40” award. All 40 honorees were nominated by executives and peers for their hard work and dedication to the industry.

For each the next eight weeks, The Waterways Journal will feature five of the 40 recipients. This week, we recognize Adam Adkins, Trevor Barnabee, Michael Breslin, Kenny Brown and Austin Bugg.

Those interested in nominating individuals for the 2020 "40 Under 40” award will have a chance to do so later this year. To be included, nominees must be under the age of 40 as of May 18, 2020, the first day of the 7th annual IMX. Award winners will be recognized during the event for their outstanding contributions to the inland marine transportation industry in a variety of fields.

  Turn Services is pleased to announce it has acquired the assets of Gulf Coast Diesel. Located in Harvey, LA, Gulf Coast Diesel has been a premier diesel engine repair and rebuild service provider to the marine industry for the past 12 years. Gulf Coast’s Diesel’s founder, Ronald Breaux, will join the Turn Services team as Director of Vessel Maintenance and will lead the Company’s maintenance division. Several of Gulf Coast Diesel’s key employees will also be joining Mr. Breaux in the transition.

7/2/2019 Commandant of the Coast Guard Tours Ports and Terminals Near New Orleans
 

 Admiral Karl Schultz, the 26th commandant of the U.S. Coast Guard, visited New Orleans on June 19th to tour port facilities on the Lower Mississippi River from aboard the Port of New Orleans fireboat, the M/V Gen. Roy S. Kelley. Leaders from the Coast Guard, State of Louisiana, Port of New Orleans and industry leaders participated in the tour which was arranged by Rear Admiral Paul Thomas, commander of the Coast Guard’s Eighth District.

Our annual golf tournament is named in memory of Glenn Otero, a Port Captain at Turn Services who inspired everyone who knew him. Unfortunately, Glenn lost a long fought battle with cancer in 2011. We could not think of a better way to honor Glenn’s memory than by continuing the fundraiser named in his honor.

The "40 Under 40” award was conceived for the 5th annual Inland Marine Expo (IMX) to highlight some of the industry’s future leaders. All 40 award winners were nominated by various industry executives and peers for their hard work and dedication to the industry.

The 40 Under 40 awards were presented at IMX in St. Louis, Mo., May 22. This week, we recognize Calfonte Harrell, Sarah Michelle Hattier, Chas Haun and Matt Hayden.

  Every year, MVTTC awards two annual $2,500.00 scholarships to a student currently enrolled in a full accredited College or University.
